Sustainability Is Our Way

Most people today use blind faith in trusting what they wear, what they cook with, the food they eat, the water they drink and the air they breathe have all the safety issues in place, after all it would not be sold openly if they were not healthy and safe. The trusting souls believe their food contains all the vital nutrients for sustaining life and keeping them healthy. There are others who are not convinced and they take vitamin supplements to cover the shortfalls, using blind faith again that they are beneficial and would never entertain the idea that those supplements could be toxic. It is too late to beat around the bush because most supplements being sold on the market today are junk, not fit for human consumption, and many of the biggest selling brands can do your body more harm than good.

Why has this happened? The natural health supplement industry is now worth billions and the primary reason it has flourished is due the quantity of people who have become discouraged with conventional health care, especially after the COVID plandemic. Because raw material quality and the components used in making vitamins are not examined or enforced, the caveat is that the industry has duped millions of consumers into purchasing ineffective nutraceuticals. It has attracted greed and profit seekers looking to make a fast buck with low quality supplements at the expense of your health. You may ask, what about the natural health industry associations, don’t they supervise that the products sold are all safe? In 2022, there was a health food show for industry only, to display their products, to attend or participate everyone entering needed to have their vaccine card, showing they had taken their two experimental COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. Surprisingly, the show was sold out and as a result we did not attend.

Commitment to product quality is quite rare, even in the natural heath industry. Have you ever considered the cotton used in vitamin bottles, for example? Did you know it could be harmful? This cotton is used for preventing capsule breakage and keeping the bottles contents humidity levels under control. This is why it needs to be sourced from organically produced cotton—not rayon, a semi-synthetic material that can be toxic—or it could contaminate the capsules. According to Organic Cotton Report of the Textile Exchange from 2022 “1.4% of all cotton grown is estimated to have been organic”[1], meaning that is free from pesticides, herbicides, and dyes, while also sustainable for the planet. 1.4% is not a lot—no wonder everyone is choosing synthetic and more affordable materials.

The difference between rayon and organic cotton

Rayon (viscose) is a fiber made from chemically processed wood pulp or bamboo, which poses serious health and environmental risks. E.g. wearing rayon can expose you to toxic substances that cause nausea, headaches, skin irritations, and breathing difficulties. Despite its smooth appearance, rayon can trigger allergic reactions, especially in those with sensitive skin, leading to conditions like contact dermatitis. The production process is also harmful—most rayon production involves chemicals, such as carbon disulfide—, contributing to pollution and deforestation, which impacts both workers and local communities. The growing demand for rayon has doubled its environmental toll over the past three decades, making its production both unsustainable and hazardous.

Organic cotton is grown without genetically modified seeds, toxic chemicals, synthetic pesticides, or fertilizers. This eco-friendly farming method protects air, soil, and water, reducing pollution and preserving local wildlife and ecosystems. It promotes better soil health and is a natural choice for those following vegan lifestyles, as no animal products are used. It also supports biodiversity, reduces soil erosion, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions, helping maintain a healthy, thriving environment. Organic cotton is hypoallergenic, as it contains no additives that cause skin irritation or allergies.

The Doctor’s Choice brand is one of the only supplement companies using organic cotton. Make sure, that when you remove the cotton from Doctor’s Choice products, you keep it and use it for removing make-up, applying tinctures or herbs, or cleaning your private areas.

Cotton is just one part of the story, low quality supplements are another. You might think that by choosing low quality the worst thing that might happen is that the supplement “will not work.” Unfortunately, the damage done is more serious than that.

Why can low quality supplements be harmful?

Low quality supplements pose significant risks due to the lack of FDA approval requirements for their sale, meaning products can be marketed without prior safety testing and only removed if proven unsafe. Many supplements contain harmful fillers, such as stearic acid and synthetic magnesium stearate, which can damage cellular health and suppress the immune system. Also, the effectiveness of supplements can vary greatly between individuals, and there’s no standard method to determine personal nutritional needs, making it essential to consult health professionals. Manufacturers also are not required to disclose potential side effects, so consumers may unknowingly face adverse reactions from some specific ingredients. Therefore, it is crucial to research supplements thoroughly and consider professional advice before use.
