“We get what we pay for.”

At Doctor’s Choice, our continuing mission is to constantly move forward and explore natural alternatives not just to cure but mainly to avoid diseases. Today, we live longer than in the past; and on the flipside, the added years are often times associated with increased disease. Many scientists believe aging is an intimately linked process—perhaps even caused by the gradual failure of the body’s immunological defense as environmental toxins accumulate, causing subversion within. We all know that environmental contamination and its residual crossover have contributed to the decline of quality in our food and water. In addition to the raw materials used in pharmaceuticals, and the over prescribed use of allopathic drugs, these are just a few of the troubling problems being discussed concerning our age.

Being a conscious company delivering the highest quality supplements for more than three decades, we know that the gold standards of the natural health industry represent the best possible choice for everyone who puts their health first.

Below, we listed a few current problems and possible solutions from Doctor’s Choice.

Compromised gut health

Aging research has had an unprecedented advancement in recent years, particularly with the discovery of how it’s controlled. Of key significance is the discovery of the second brain, the gut microbiota, and its connection to the body’s immune defense and mood balance. But, apparently, we are not taking care of our gut health enough.

The rising prevalence of allergies is one of the many complex problems. Studies have shown that increased antibiotic use parallels the rise in allergy and asthma. Researchers suggest that early antibiotic use changes the bacterial flora, which impacts the development of allergic diseases such as asthma.”[1]

This is the reason why incorporating probiotic (Laktokhan Probiotic Complex) whenever taking antibiotics is so important. “There are a number of conditions for which probiotics are suggested to be of benefit, including eczema, food allergies, lactose intolerance, treatment of recurrent bacterial infection called C. difficile, inflammatory bowel disease, and generally an improved resistance to common infections,” says Bryce Wylde, one of Canada’s leading alternative health experts.[2] So if you want to stabilize your immune system, with the help of probiotics you can.

Lower food quality leading to weakened immune system

Our body’s thymus gland produces T-lymphocytes, type of white blood cells responsible for cell-mediated immunity which is extremely important in resisting infections by mold-like bacteria: yeast, fungi, parasites, viruses, toxins and allergens.

Livestock and poultry from birth are injected with steroids and antibiotics to allow for quicker growth, so they can go to market earlier. These chemicals do not break down, and end up entering our bodies, only to accumulate as toxins within our own system. This leaves us resistant to antibiotics and susceptible to a weakened immune system to the point that common bacteria could become fatal. Because of this, we’re losing ground and not keeping pace with superbugs’ ability to develop resistance to the current antibiotics.

Fortunately, there are natural alternatives that help the abundance of well-functioning T-cells, regulate the immune system and help the body fight off pathogens and diseases. This is what Doctor’s Choice® Thymus Gland was designed for. It is produced from New Zealand non-GMO grass-fed lamb and free from antibiotics or hormone injections. Thymus gland also has Vitamin B6 (P5P) and Zinc Picolinate, the keystone molecule for thymic proteins, the immune substances made in the thymus gland.

Bioaccumulation of heavy metals in our body

Metal toxins (aluminum, arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, copper, lead, mercury and nickel) are entering our body at an alarming rate. You may have heard the expression “the straw that broke the camel’s back,” that’s a good analogy for what is happening today as toxins are accumulating in our bodies quicker than being released resulting in a term called “bioaccumulation” of toxins. Industrial development and lifestyle choices are the leading causes of this increase since we are exposed to toxic metals every day.

Research scientists believe that heavy metals are systemic and affecting us all. They cause havoc with our health, ranging from leaky gut syndrome, neurologic disorders (such as mental illness to chronic fatigue), cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, blood disorders, developmental abnormalities and cancer. Now that we have the information, we really can do better. Especially since there is mounting evidence suggesting that chelation therapy can help remove toxic heavy metals from the body. For added convenience to interveinal administered EDTA chelation, there is the oral form from Doctor’s Choice® called CLAW – OCHMB.

Thyroid cancer is on the increase

It is estimated that nearly 57,000 new cases of thyroid cancer will be diagnosed, it has increased more than threefold over the past four decades. It is now the 8th most common cancer diagnosis in the United States, mainly driven by increases in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), which is the most common type.

The thyroid gland is the master gland and surrounds the windpipe at the base of the neck. It produces a number of hormones, primarily thyroxine. Thyroxine is essential to sexuality in women, providing a glandular link between the brain and the organs of reproduction. The other principal thyroid hormone is calcitonin, which inhibits the release of calcium from bone and plays a central role in maintaining both calcium balance and strong bones.

Despite its side effects, Levothyroxine is considered the standard of care for conventional physicians. However, a possible solution may lie in the natural alternative: raw desiccated whole thyroid gland concentrates derived from non-GMO grass-fed bovine, that is non-medicated and hormone free, it could help restore the balance needed for those with both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Thyrodine® Thyroid Gland is a proprietary preparation without chemical residue, safe, effective and a natural source of iodine. A 4 year achievement, and licensed by Health Canada.

Synthetic ingredients in our supplements

Interestingly, manufacturers label their products as being “natural”, when in fact it may only contain 10% of natural ingredients, and most commercial brands sold in pharmacies are more than likely derived from genetically modified materials. The other 90% could be synthetic nutrients, also referred to as isolated nutrients; these are usually artificially made, needing further conversation within the body before being absorbed. The majority of supplements available on the market today are made artificially. They include vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, among others. These supplements originate in the lab and are produced in facilities via chemical manipulations with the goal of duplicating the structure of the isolated plant nutrient.

Most of the B vitamins other than Next Generation B-Complex are produced using synthetic B’s derived as by-products of vegetables, animals or minerals, then added enzymes, probiotics and even fermentation. Studies have demonstrated that B Vitamins and nutrients from natural sources are well-absorbed when ingested (95%), and also have an optimum bio-availability (90%) at the cellular level in active form. One does not need to take high dosages or quantities to achieve health benefits.

On the contrary, Synthetic B vitamins are poorly absorbed (30%), and have lower bio-availability (25%).  This is the reason why the most common synthetic B Vitamins are formulated with high quantities of ingredients. High concentrations of synthetic vitamins can be dangerous because they can build up in your tissues and cause toxicity. The reason that the synthetic form is more dangerous is because you get a high concentrated serving of the vitamin rather than the amount that you would get from a food-based form.

Staying healthy might seem to be the challenge of the 21st century. The influencing factors can be lifestyle and diet, the quality of our food and water, air pollution, the presence of toxic household items or the medication we take.

When choosing food supplements ensure they are plant based and not lab designed, and fit to be classified as a food supplement. Avoid additives, binders and colours of all kind. The only things acceptable will be inert fillers such as plant based cellulose fiber. If flow agents are needed, look for ascorbal palmitate which is fat soluble Vitamin C. Remember, if the price is too good, consider the above. Because you get what you pay for.
