“You might ask: how do we function as a nation when we are willing to paralyze our own food supply in the fear of a possible enemy, developing bio-terrorism by using insects to infect plants with viruses that protect against the unknown boogie man?”

Glyphosate—the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer—has also been linked to Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases not to mention that there are currently hundreds of court cases in state and federal courts arguing that the widely used weed killer causes cancer. It has been getting a lot of attention for its connection to other disrupting effects as well, like sexual development, genes, beneficial gut bacteria and endocrine disruptive effects.

The list of health concerns related to the weedkiller is long but there is still more to it. As we were discussing it in our previous newsletter, there appears to be a direct link between the usage of glyphosate and the increasing number of Lyme disease cases. And there is still more.

Glyphosate may be killing honey bees

Less debated whether or not glyphosate causes cancer is the herbicide’s impact on the environment. The decline in the bee population is just one of many concerns that are currently being discussed since the pesticide kills off plants that are essential for the survival of many animals. This could result in farm lands lacking herbal varieties and landscapes without birds and insects that are crucial for life on earth.

“The new study directly links the use of glyphosate with the decline in bees. Researchers found that bees with impaired gut microbiomes after exposure to glyphosate were far more likely to die when later exposed to Serratia marcescens, an opportunistic pathogen that infects bees around the world, compared with bees with healthy guts.”[1]

Without bees and other pollinators, roughly three-quarters of the crops we grow in the world would disappear. Albert Einstein stated, “If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” Besides the pollination process bees do many other things as well. They’re deeply involved in lots of nutrient cycles, helping to break down leaves, dead trees and dead bodies of animals. They help to recycle those nutrients and make them available again.

Of course, saving the insects would require health authorities and politicians to finally classify glyphosate as a carcinogen and ban its license once and for all. Unfortunately, nobody has been able to produce any definite results so far.

Insects as possible bioweapons?

While our governments are allowing a potential carcinogen to be used and it slowly becomes the ingredient of almost every food that we eat, military programs are starting to raise another concern. “A research arm of the U.S. military is exploring the possibility of deploying insects to make plants more resilient by altering their genes. Some experts say the work may be seen as a potential biological weapon.”[2]

You might ask: how do we function as a nation when we are willing to paralyze our own food supply in the fear of a possible enemy, developing bio-terrorism by using insects to infect plants with viruses that protect against the unknown boogie man? If this type of research is being conducted how are any of us safe? Is this also part of the plan: weaponized insects and plants eaten by humans to create a genetic change for greater resistance to toxins?

No doubt, the military program has raised many questions. Another one is regarding ticks and whether they have been used as military weapons between the years of 1950 and 1975 causing the tick-borne illness Lyme disease that might have started as “a military experiment gone wrong.” Now the U.S. House of Representatives has ordered the Pentagon to investigate whether the Department of Defense experimented with weaponizing ticks and insects in the past.

Whatever your thoughts on this subject might be, there is one thing you will certainly agree with: we deserve to know what is affecting our health and causing diseases in order for us to be able to fight them and protect ourselves in the best possible way. Though, the invisible threats hiding behind governments, businesses and organizations for decades make this seem almost impossible to do. So the next time you discover that a food is contaminated with a cancer causing secret ingredient, it might be in our favourite chocolate or ice cream and that’s just unacceptable.
